Sun, Surf, & Sharks in the Dominican Republic

Our latest trip to Santo Domingo was a nice suprise!

Our hotel was the Hostal Nicolas De Ovando. The only 5 Diamond property in the DR. It is charming and within walking distance of most historical sites and restaurants. The rooms are large with ceramic tile everywhere. It is right on the canal where the ferry to San Juan leaves.

Next stop was Hotel Frances. It is just a few blocks from the Ovando, so there is the same ease of seeing the historical sites. It was charming in furnishings and comfortable in every way. The most lovely feature is an open courtyard that has music and food service. Already they had decorated for Christmas and I could have stayed hours and hours..

Next event was a tour of the Colonial Zone in Santo Domingo. How amazing! Santo Domingo is the site of the first church in the Americas, first school in the Americas, first paved road, and the first hospital. The anchor from one of the ships that were in the Spanish armada is even there.
